Sorry, I was not posting something too long. So I suppose many of you have questions, writing and reading other posts about http://www.picollator.com . Many people discuss if it works fine or not. I found many questions already commented in my past messages.
For instance, one of typical mistake is to compare Picollator.com with some celebrity matching services. I recognize them, but please do not make a mixture: Picollator is the honest search engine which makes index from everything taken automatically from the web. Our people do not do any manual work with it except monitoring, changing algorithms and managing resources. If you can see celebrities in results, it just means that famous people are presented in the web more often than others. Therefore they come to our index with more probability because the index is not quite big yet. Celebrity matching websites work upon the prepared database consisting of celebrity photos only. It is a big difference, isn’t it? The difference is like it was between search machines and directories at the Zero stage of the web search.
Another question looks like “i tried to find Star Starring uploading his/her photo, and Picollator has not found him/her”. The answer is simple: that person is not in our database YET with high probability. As yourself, maybe. As myself definitely because (they told me
) Picollator has not indexed WordPress.com .
Some people say: “well, I will use text search better”. No problem at this moment. However, very close future (1-2 years) displays the question – how will you find something inside giant number of large web documents using only descriptions, if you cannot find proper textual information using text right now? Moreover, we have identified many real cases when resource cannot be found by text. One of them has been discussed at http://www.readwriteweb.com/archives/picollator_image_recognition.php with Russell Crowe. Please look closer to the area ‘keywords’ in the picture posted there. Can you find a Russel name there? All keywords are obtained from picture descriptions, so I do not know any text search engine which can find that particular Russel’s photo at that particular hosting web resource. Picollator has found it, because it looks like Josh Catone (blog’s author) who uploaded his own photo.
OK. Now just a couple of words. If you suggested that you saw everything at www.picollator.com , you are pretty wrong. Very soon you will see some interesting interface improvements made right for those who likes to know everything about one-to-one matching between the uploaded faces and found ones. Another new feature will be prepared for wider use than just finding pictures. I cannot say more at this time – you know, marketing team prohibits me from saying too much today.
Please ask questions directly, in this blog. I can answer much faster than browising for your opinions at other sites.
Heya!
Read about your search engine at Ukrainian magazine Internet.ua, great idea, respect!
But, infortunately, for some reason the site shows neither the “favorite” images, nor the found ones. I see my image and the results and can only go to the link and fing some similar face at the page, but i’d love it to show the found image irght to mine in the search results.
Tested it on Firefox, opera and IE – doesn’t show.
Is there a way I can help solving the bug?
Hi Dasha! I am sure this is a minor bag. We do not see it at our testing places. Please send your question with the details of IE version, OS, etc. to http://www.recogmission.com/company/contact .
Hope you will be happy with the solution.
Hi, there. Awesome idea. but what’s about privacy? I mean, is host gonna to keep pic if i searched one?
Hi Vlad! Good question, by the way. The answer is very simple: we do not store photos uploaded by the user. We are just going to implement some services requiring such operation, but the user will be informed clearly and asked if he wants to use it and store his pictures at picollator.com . So do not worry, we keep privacy and recognize your rights.
